Expedition Space Lab

WHERE GRAVITY WON’T HOLD YOU BACK!

Expedition Space Lab is an online tool from the International Space Station (ISS) National Laboratory that provides educators with easy access to ISS-related lessons, activities, and other resources to integrate into their curriculum. The ISS National Lab is excited to help educators bring out-of-this-world learning opportunities to their students!

Expedition Space Lab is designed to help schools, museums, and other educational institutions incorporate a “Space Lab” into their organization using resources from ISS National Lab Space Station Explorers (SSE) educational partners and NASA. The purpose of Expedition Space Lab is to make it easy for educators to enrich their curriculum with ISS-related educational resources. The resources are sorted by grade level and science area so educators can easily select the specific content that is most useful for their students.

Each grade level offers “missions” in the following science areas: Earth and Space Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences. Each mission highlights SSE and/or NASA educational programs and includes FREE lessons and resources. For educators that want to take their curriculum to the next level, missions also highlight additional SSE partner program resources that have associated costs but provide a more engaging learning experience.

Elementary

Science in space is for everyone, including the youngest of learners. From growing tomato seeds that flew in space to listening to astronauts onboard the ISS read children’s books, there is something for every young learner. Get ready to launch learning into orbit with these exciting activities.

Middle School

Challenge and inspire middle school students with engaging space station-related activities. Whether it’s coding robots in space or predicting and calculating the orbit of the ISS, finding space-based activities for middle school students has never been easier.

High School

Engage high school students in ISS-related science in dynamic and exciting ways. Talk to astronauts onboard the ISS via ham radio or design a heat shield to protect a space capsule on its re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere. Educational opportunities abound to help high school students grow.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

In addition to free resources, Expedition Space Lab missions also highlight SSE partner program resources that have associated costs but provide a more engaging learning experience.

“Space is for everybody. It’s not just for a few people in science or math, or for a select group of astronauts. That’s our new frontier out there, and it’s everybody’s business to know about space.”
