Fruit Fly Lab
Short Name: Fruit Fly Lab
Current Status: On Ground
The Fruit Fly Lab is a platform on the ISSInternational Space Station that enables long-duration fruit fly (Drosophila Melanogaster) experiments in space. These investigations study how exposure to microgravityThe condition of perceived weightlessness created when an object is in free fall, for example when an object is in orbital motion. Microgravity alters many observable phenomena within the physical and life sciences, allowing scientists to study things in ways not possible on Earth. The International Space Station provides access to a persistent microgravity environment. and the other attributes of the space environment affect fruit flies, providing valuable information for long-term spaceflight and response to illness.
