To initiate the process of submitting project concept summaries to the International Space Station (ISSInternational Space Station) National Laboratory, all interested parties are required to complete an online Step 1A: Concept Summary form. Access to this form is facilitated by clicking the GO TO CONCEPT SUMMARY FORM button located at the bottom of this page. Concept summaries will undergo thorough evaluation to ensure comprehensive coverage of all necessary elements, alignment with the pertinent solicitation, and a demonstrated need for access to the space environment. It is imperative that offerors diligently complete all sections of the online concept summary form.
During the preparation of Step 1A: Concept Summary, offerors are strongly advised to identify and engage with an Implementation Partner—organizations that work with the ISS National Lab to provide specialized services related to payload development.
Instructions for Completing the Concept Summary Form:
- The form can be saved at any juncture, allowing for submission at a later time, by selecting the “Save and Exit” button situated at the bottom of the page. However, access to the form ends after the specified submission deadline. Upon opting for this feature, an email containing a link to access the partially completed form will be sent via email.
- Submission of the concept summary form to CASIS(Abbreviation: CASIS™) The nonprofit organization that manages the ISS National Lab, which receives at least 50 percent of the U.S. research allocation on the International Space Station to facilitate research that benefits humanity (NASA manages the other 50% and focuses on research for space exploration purposes). is confirmed upon clicking the “submit” button, followed by a prompt confirmation email.
- Throughout form completion, informative tooltips are available, identifiable by the (i) icon, which, when hovered over, provide supplemental details.
Offerors may submit multiple concept summary forms through this platform, provided each submission pertains to distinct emphasis areas and research topics. Additionally, a document detailing the information required on the online concept summary form is accessible for offline reference, aiding in the thorough preparation of submissions.
Please limit your textual responses to the noted character limits. A maximum of two typical-length paragraphs per question is preferred. Concise answers aid efficient processing of applications while maintaining clarity.
Crucially, ensure alignment between the value entered in line item 8 (Total from All Funding Sources) on Page 4 of the online form (Project Budget) and the value specified in line item 3 (Total Project Funding Required). Additionally, ensure that all cost figures entered into the budget table are in full dollar amounts.
The deadline for Step 1A: Concept Summary submissions is October 3, 2024.
