The Astronaut Diaper
Imagine you’re an astronaut on a spacewalk. You have to work for seven hours straight in a suit so stiff that you can barely bend your joints or curl your fingers. There’s a valve in the helmet to access drinking water, but no food. And what if you have to pee? Students think about how spacesuits provide for astronauts’ safety and comfort, and they investigate the chemical that makes the Maximum Absorbency Garment (the “astronaut diaper”) super-absorbent. Grades 4-8.
