Student Scientists Hope to Keep Astronauts Healthy in Space

Team Violet Purple at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

Back in April, Team Violet Purple – a group of students in grades 3-9 – made their way from California to Florida’s east coast to watch SpaceX’s 17th commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station. Although delays prevented the students from watching the launch, they had the opportunity to spend the day at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex where they gave a presentation on their student-designed experiment that actually spent time on the ISS! Aimed at protecting the health of astronauts in space, their experiment was designed to determine how best to safeguard astronauts from space radiation.
