Creating a Space-based Kitchen

While everyone is busy in their kitchens this Thanksgiving, Zero G Kitchen is developing a small oven to send to the International Space Station (ISS) as part of their planned “kitchen in space.” The oven, which is being built in partnership with ISS National Lab implementation partner NanoRacks, would allow crew members to freshly prepare small food items such as rolls, hamburger patties, and cookies.

After the oven, Zero G Kitchen plans to develop additional kitchen appliances for space, such as a blender, slow cooker, and refrigerator. Development of such space-adapted appliances is not only important for future long-duration space missions, it would also make living on the ISS feel a little more like home—especially during the holidays!
