Japan’s HTV-7 Cargo Ship Arrives at the Space Station

This morning, NASANational Aeronautics and Space Administration astronauts Drew Feustel and Serena Auñón-Chancellor captured the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s Kounotori H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV-7) using the International Space Station’s robotic arm, and ground controllers successfully installed the spacecraft to the Harmony module of the space station.
HTV-7, which was launched from the Tanegashima Space Center in Japan on Saturday, arrived at the space station carrying five tons of supplies and experiments. Included in the cargo are six new lithium-ion batteries to continue upgrades to the electrical power system of the ISSInternational Space Station. The batteries will be removed from HTV-7 and installed on the space station using robotics controllers. The final work to complete battery hookup will be done in a series of two upcoming spacewalks.
