National Academies Symposium: Identifying Future Priorities for Life and Physical Sciences Research in Space

Tomorrow, International Space Station (ISSInternational Space Station) National Lab Chief Strategic Officer Dr. Richard Leach is speaking at a symposium held by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Committee on Biological and Physical Sciences in Space. The symposium is meant to help the committee prepare for a new decadal survey that will identify priorities for space-based research in the areas of life sciences and physical sciences.
The committee is gathering information on the research capabilities and platforms that are likely to be available during the time frame included in the survey and is working to determine the most important research needs both within and outside of NASANational Aeronautics and Space Administration. At the symposium, Dr. Leach will discuss the topic “Forecasting the 2024-2035 Space Based National Laboratory for Life and Physical Sciences Space Research,” providing an overview of the ISS National Lab as it is today and discussing how the ISS National Lab could evolve in the coming decade.
This symposium is part of Space Science Week 2019, a joint meeting of the five National Academies committees within space science disciplines to discuss advances and issues in their fields. The symposium is open, and anyone interested in attending is invited to join remotely online.
