Ninth Orbital ATK Commercial Resupply Mission Preparing for Launch

The ninth Orbital ATK commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station is targeted for launch no earlier than Monday, May 21. Launching on an Antares rocket from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia, the Cygnus capsule will carry approximately 7,400 pounds of science payloads, crew supplies, and hardware to the space station.

Multiple ISS National Lab payloads are included on this mission, including research in life sciences, physical sciences, materials sciences, technology development, and small satellites, as well as hardware facilities to support future research. Additionally, several educational investigations launching on this mission are focused on inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers.

*Please note that this post originally listed the launch date as no earlier than Sunday, May 20. However, NASA issued the following statement:

“Orbital ATK, in conjunction with NASA, has moved the Antares and Cygnus launch to no earlier than Monday, May 21 at 4:39 a.m. EDT to support further pre-launch inspections and more favorable weather conditions. Monday shows an 80% probability of acceptable weather for launch.”
