What Do Students in New Mexico Want to Know About Space?
On February 21st, students from six schools in Alamogordo, New Mexico, had the opportunity to speak with NASANational Aeronautics and Space Administration astronaut Scott Tingle as he orbited the Earth on the International Space Station. Scott arrived at the station back in December and is scheduled to remain in space until June. The students prepared for this exciting Earth-to-space call by forming teams to design and build simple apparatuses or experiments involving fluid management, combustion, or crystal growth to compare performance in a 1g vs simulated microgravityThe condition of perceived weightlessness created when an object is in free fall, for example when an object is in orbital motion. Microgravity alters many observable phenomena within the physical and life sciences, allowing scientists to study things in ways not possible on Earth. The International Space Station provides access to a persistent microgravity environment. environment.
