The purpose of this Request for Proposals (RFP) is to solicit project concepts that propose use of the ISSInternational Space Station National Laboratory for investigations in the field of advanced materials science and engineering from investigators associated with any U.S.-based institution (academic, government, commercial, or nonprofit).

In-space Production Applications(Abbreviation: InSPA) InSPA is an applied research and development program sponsored by NASA and the ISS National Lab aimed at demonstrating space-based manufacturing and production activities by using the unique space environment to develop, test, or mature products and processes that could have an economic impact.

Concepts may include flight experiments within or on the exterior of the ISS that:
- Enable the development of next-generation production methods.
- Improve understanding of mechanisms involved in material transformations.
- Advance fundamental materials discovery, design, synthesis, and characterization.
- Test processes, strategies, and manufacturing methods for the creation of novel design and synthesis pathways.
Steps to Applying for This Research Opportunity
This research announcement will follow a two-step proposal submission process. Before being invited to submit a full proposal, all interested investigators must first complete and submit for review a Step 1: Concept Summary.
